Surtsey Island is known for being the newest island on earth and it keeps on growing! It was formed during a volcanic eruption that lasted for four years. Only a few have set foot on this island because it is only open for geologists and scientists who are researching the terrain. The island is forbidden to tourists and that’s just what makes it all the more intriguing!
2. Lascaux Caves, France
This cave was closed to the public in 1963. Only a few archeologists have gazed upon these pre-historic paintings which are estimated to be 17,000 years old. The walls of the cave depict cattle, stags, bison and many other animals which look like they are dancing in the glow of the lights. The cave was discovered in 1940 by an 18-year old man when out on a walk, his dog fell into the hole of the underground cave.
3. North Sentinel Island, India
It may look like a patch of remote paradise, but you would be lucky enough to get a glimpse of this island from a plane, because travel to it is strictly forbidden. It is home to a Sentinelese tribe which have been reported to get very violent to protect themselves from intruders. The tribe has lived on the island for 50,000 years and is protected by the Indian Government. It is considered the most dangerous island in the world.
4. Snake Island, Brazil
Ilha da Queimada Grande or ‘Snake Island’ is a small island of only 43 hectares. It is estimated that there is one snake per square meter on the island. The snakes got trapped on the island due to rising sea levels that connected the island the mainland and were able to adjust to their environment quickly. It is an island where travel is restricted… for obvious reasons.
